Running Free

I can’t control this flesh and blood
That’s wrapped around my bones
It moves beneath me like a river
Into the great unknown

I’d ridden on the open plains
Before I could knot my shoes
Pried a sword out the hand of a outsider
Who lived and died in ignorance

Cynthia’s promise made was never so clear
It’s carved itself in me
All I see is my land inside my head
On the night she said to me

“Today you’ll live like horses
Free rein from restrictions on where you roam
There’s more ways than one to regain your senses
No need for stalls because you’ll live like horses”

We were the victims of the heartbreak
That kept us short of breath
Trapped within cities and streets
Without a safety net

We stood up to civilization
Tearing down the pox of man
We claimed a spoke in the wheel of life
On body of the golden plains

I jump wholeheartedly into Cynthia’s arms
It just makes sense to me
I’ve spent too long in the belly of the beast
And now I shall be free
